What's a Donair? Green pea soup? Lobster!

Yes, what is a Donair??  We saw the signs touting "Best Donairs in Cape Breton", so obviously it's a local snack, but what are they?  On our way back into town we saw a little snack shack called Tom & Etts, so being lunchtime we pulled in and ordered two.  They are pretty good.  If I was given the choice between Donairs and Poutine, I would choose Donairs every time.  It's quite close to a Greek Gyro, they use the same type of meat, stuff it with mushrooms, onions, and peppers and add Donair sauce,  a little sweet, but pretty tasty.

Eating one takes the same finesse as eating an extra-large soft taco.  Good luck keeping the filling intact!  It takes a little effort, but it's great, especially if it's a sunny day and pleasant outside.

OK, there's split pea soup, and green pea soup.  Y'all know what split pea soup is like.  Green pea soup is green and tastes like .  .  . green peas!  I'd rank it right up there with Poutine.

Well, it's now Lobster season in Nova Scotia.  They are caught locally, most days 20 or so boats are out on our bay tending the traps.  Our friend Br. Jim scored on a bunch, and was kind enough to give us a few, just out of the steamer.  You have to work at it to get the meat out, but it sure is tasty!  And the small bits are saved as an ingredient in the local and most delicious Fish Chowder.  Be aware that this is one of the recipes Sister Johnson is bringing back and we'll treat you to it upon our return.  It's worth the wait, I assure you!
