Video History, Family History, and more friends
Our Cape Breton Video History Project was off to a slow start, but the momentum is starting to pick up now. We are finding that some people are hesitant to speak into a microphone (or camera), and they are a little daunted by being recorded. However, others are not and we have had some delightful experiences. Here are a couple of jump drives with Video Histories recorded on them that we put in little gift boxes and give to those who participate. We have had some great experiences so far, and look forward to many more.
During our last trip to Halifax, our drive back to Sydney coincided with the return of young Br. Alex from a Canada-wide youth confrence in Ottawa. We picked him up at the airport to save his Mom another 550 mi round trip to get him. He hadn't eaten today because he had to get up so early to get to the airport. On the way home we stopped for lunch, and he ordered 2 hamburger meals. Then I realized he's just like our grandsons at home when it comes to hunger and food. He is also a talented pianist, a competitive swimmer, and speaks English and French. An all-round great youth!
After the 5.5 hour trip back to Sydney, it's now supper time, so we invite his mom Sister Debbie to meet us at her favorite Japanese restaurant to eat and exchange Alex. As you can see, he requires 2 waitresses to get his entire order in, cause he's hungry again.
