The Branch has a great activity in Mabou, NS
A couple of times per year, the Branch has an activity at the Kaine's, who live near Mabou, NS. It's about an hour away from Sydney, a long way for them to drive to church, but they are very faithful. They also have 200 acres, and have created a "Bows and Throws" venue that is becoming very popular. It surely is for young Gabriel, who is having his first experience with a bow.
Not to be outdone is younger brother Josh, who's on his way to becoming a talented archer.
Of course the older fellers have to get into the action as well. There seemed to be a lot more talking and looking than shooting, but they got their share in!
The boyz demonstrate their skill with throwing hatchets. After a little practice, they got pretty good
The highlight was, of course a sumptuous Barbecue with great food and sociality enjoyed by all. There were 24 Branch members in attendance at this event.
It turns out that sister Maritia is not only a great cook, but a grillmaster as well. She did a good job of keeping ahead of 24 folks with healthy outdoor appetites at the end of this event.
As you may imagine, it wasn't all play. Many of the homes here are built on pillars, with a narrow crawl space under the floors. Over time, the pillars may settle. This requires someone with the knowledge and skills of brothers Jim and George to crawl under the house with special jacks, lift up the floors to level, and put shims on the pillars to keep them in place.
Sister Diane shows off her handiwork, which includes a blanket with patches from all the places she and her husband Carl have visited. Quite an impressive collection.
Branch members Rhonda and Jim are our hosts for this event. They are lovely people and take good care of their "farm". It's always a joy to be with them.
My friend Friday gives me a squeeze. He is a relatively new member, a student from Nigeria, whose wife and 3 children are in Paris. He's working hard to get his degree in Supply Chain Management, and a job in Canada. After that, he'll be able to apply for citizenship and bring his family over.
Long-time members Teresita and Jim are mainstays of our branch. Jim is a successful contractor and builder who is quite multi-talented. We love them also, just like all the members in Sydney Branch.
